Polis/Reset Campaign 20/21 – Volksbühne
Under the guiding concept of POLIS / RESET, the season draws upon Europe's oldest theatrical texts to explore existential questions that remain relevant today. The season's artistic approach focuses on recontextualizing classical material through contemporary lenses, particularly emphasizing resistance to traditional perspectives and cycles of violence. The campaign key visuals are three-dimensional collages inspired by Greek tragedy characters. These sculptural works are created as layered paper collages on styrofoam heads, incorporating recycled materials including newspapers, magazines, old theater programs, and remnants from the theater's different departments. The layered paper and material directly reflects the thematic concept of the continuous rewriting, layering, and reinterpretation of Greek theatrical texts throughout history. The dimensional quality of the sculptural objects embodies the season's archaeological approach to classical texts.
